Artificial grass makes monsoon season low maintenance affair for AZ turf owners

After months of dry, hot weather the arrival of the Monsoon to Arizona usually brings torrential rain in short spurts. While pounding, driving rain can beat down and wreck natural lawns, the heavy rain cleans and revitalizes synthetic grass.

Our team of experts at the two Arizona Turf Depot locations in Peoria and Mesa, can share the multiple advantages of synthetic grass vs. natural grass, especially during wetter months. The key is professional installation with proper drainage built in with the infill that goes under the carpet of synthetic grass.

Unlike natural lawns that look awful when filled with drowned grass and standing puddles, artificial turf looks new when washed by rain. In addition, synthetic grass and the infill below it are porous, so water drains away easily from commercial and residential properties when designed and installed by professionals. The quick drainage prevents standing water and flooding.

When the rains come, they often bring wind, too, and that means flying debris ranging from tree leaves and limbs to the neighbors’ recycling spiraling through the air and landing on synthetic lawns and landscaped areas. Cleanup is easy – just pick up any stray items, especially heavier items that might bend your grass blades. Then, gently brush your artificial turf to return all the blades to an upright position and keep them from being bent.

If the storm is a Haboob – one of those rolling walls of dust and moisture than be several stories tall – don’t worry. When the dust settles, just spray it off with a garden hose, clear up any debris left behind, and the artificial lawn looks as good as new.

Year-round maintenance is easy, too, for areas landscaped with artificial turf. There is no need for pesticides, watering, nor gas or electric powered tools to trim, cut and maintain. This makes synthetic grass an ecologically viable alternative to natural grass.
