In Arizona, changing seasons bring lower temperatures that are great for enjoying the outdoors. However, given the dramatic difference between highs of more than 100 degrees in the summer and lows that can dip below freezing in the winter, these changes result in a need to change lawn types by the season. The Bermuda grass that Arizona grows in spring and summer can’t survive the cold temperatures of winter in the Sonoran Desert. This means that every fall, lawn owners in the Valley need to follow an overseeding procedure that involves reducing fertilizer and water, cutting the Bermuda grass short and seeding the ground with ryegrass.
